OHL Wins $165 Million in California Projects, Equivalent to 144 Million Euros

May 9, 2019

OHL, operating through its U.S. subsidiary OHL USA, has announced the acquisition of new contracts in California totaling 144 million euros, which is approximately $165 million in US dollars. This significant achievement underscores OHL’s continued growth and strong presence in the North American construction market.

One of the major projects secured is the Valencia Water Reclamation Plant Advanced Water Treatment Facility, valued at 75.9 million euros ($87.3 million dollars). Awarded by the Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District of Los Angeles County, this project involves the construction of a state-of-the-art water treatment facility. This advanced facility will incorporate microfiltration and nanofiltration equipment, along with an enhanced membrane system to ensure high-quality water reclamation. The scope of work also includes the erection of a metal building to house the facility, an electrical substation to power operations, a truck loading station for efficient waste management, and several pump stations to manage water flow throughout the plant. This project highlights OHL’s expertise in developing critical water infrastructure and contributing to sustainable solutions.

In addition to the water treatment plant, OHL USA has also been awarded a significant road infrastructure project in California, valued at 67.6 million euros ($77.7 million dollars). This contract, granted by Caltrans, focuses on the comprehensive reconstruction of 10.5 kilometers (6.5 miles) of Highway 101 in King City. The project scope includes the removal and replacement of existing deteriorated concrete pavement, ensuring a smoother and safer driving surface. Furthermore, the project will involve the widening of two existing bridges along this stretch of highway to improve traffic flow and accommodate future transportation needs. This infrastructure upgrade is crucial for enhancing connectivity and safety on a major California highway.

OHL has been a consistent player in the U.S. construction market since 2006, steadily building a reputation for delivering large-scale and complex projects. A landmark achievement for OHL USA was in 2017 when they secured their largest single project in the United States, with a substantial budget of 1.2 billion euros ($1.3 billion dollars). This massive undertaking in Orange County, California, focuses on the improvement of 25.7 kilometers (16 miles) of Interstate 405, a notoriously congested freeway in the region. Adding to their portfolio of impressive projects, just last year, OHL was awarded a 212 million euro project ($253 million dollar) for the rehabilitation of the iconic Throgs Neck Suspension Bridge in New York, executed through their subsidiary Judlau Contracting, Inc. These recent project wins, including the current 144 million euros in dollars equivalent California contracts, reinforce OHL’s position as a leading international construction firm with a strong foothold and proven track record in the competitive U.S. market.
