Embarking on a Euro front conversion is a project filled with unique experiences and discoveries, as many forum members have shared. Having recently completed the front conversion on my vehicle, and at 79 years young, I’m contemplating whether I have the time and energy to tackle the rear conversion this season. Based on forum discussions, the rear conversion seems less complex.
One unexpected aspect of this project was the necessity for a new radiator, a detail I will elaborate on separately. I’m sharing photos of elements that might pique your interest, and I encourage you to ask questions about them. Feel free to reach out to me directly.
Here are some quick notes based on my experience with the front conversion:
-
Hood Assist Springs: Begin by safely removing the hood assist springs. Disconnect the limit stop first, allowing the hood to move slightly forward before detaching the springs. This ensures a controlled and safe removal process.
-
Hood Latches: Attaching the new hood latches to the hood can be quite challenging. Removing the grille provides better access. You’ll find a three-hole nut plate that is loose within the attachment point. Utilize an L-shaped scribe to maneuver it into the correct position to start the bolts. Aligning the latches will become easier with the hood down and latched during this process.
-
Euro Hinges: Note that Euro hinges are designed without through bolts and feature welded nuts in place. This is a different design compared to standard hinges and is important to be aware of during installation.
-
Bumper Installation: You’ll definitely need assistance when bolting the bumper into place. The aftermarket bumpers may require modification, such as cutting, to properly fit the nut plates. Retaining the original rubber pucks and washers and reinstalling them on their respective sides might be beneficial. Having a friend hold the bumper steady while you align and start the bolts will be crucial – and may test your wife’s patience!
