Saint-Gobain has finalized an agreement to sell its Advanced Ceramics business to CoorsTek, a US-based company, for an enterprise value of 245 million US dollars, which is approximately 200 million euros.
The Advanced Ceramics division, part of Saint-Gobain’s Ceramic Materials sector, specializes in manufacturing and marketing ceramic components. Their diverse product range includes hot surface igniters, electro-ceramic parts essential for household appliances, high-performance ceramic balls for bearings, water pump seals for automobiles, specialized components used in the semiconductor industry, agricultural spray nozzles, and various other dense alumina components.
In 2009, the Saint-Gobain Advanced Ceramics business generated sales of 135 million euros and employed over 1,100 individuals across 14 facilities located in the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
Saint-Gobain’s decision to accept CoorsTek’s offer reflects a strategic alignment. CoorsTek, a prominent global player with a long history in the advanced ceramics industry, possesses the necessary investment resources and research and development capabilities. This acquisition is expected to foster synergies and facilitate the international growth of the divested businesses.
This divestment underscores Saint-Gobain’s Ceramic Materials activity’s ongoing commitment to dynamically manage its business portfolio. The focus is on prioritizing activities with significant technological content where the company holds leading positions in innovation and product development.
The completion of this divestment is contingent upon clearance from anti-trust authorities in the US and Brazil.
