Discover Euro-Med Monitor: Championing Human Rights in Europe and MENA

Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor stands as a youth-driven and independent non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for human rights. Operating across Europe and the MENA region, Euro Med Monitor prioritizes the rights of individuals facing occupation, conflict, political instability, and displacement due to persecution or war.

Who We Are

Established in November 2011 and officially registered in Switzerland (CH-660.0.748.015-1) as its headquarters, Euro-Med Monitor emerged from the spirit of popular uprisings against oppression in the Arab region during 2011. This spirit continues to inspire the organization’s work in fostering international awareness and mobilizing human rights organizations and decision-makers to address violations of freedom of expression and fundamental rights.

Beyond its administrative and policy hub in Geneva—a city central to numerous UN human rights bodies—euro med monitor maintains a regional office in the Palestinian Occupied Territories. It also fosters collaborations with representatives and organizations throughout the MENA countries and Europe. A dedicated senior staff, geographically diverse, manages Euro-Med Monitor under the guidance of a distinguished Board of Trustees.

Our Scope of Work

Euro-Med Monitor acts as a vital complement to and partner with other human rights organizations operating in the MENA region. Through news updates, insightful video interviews, and comprehensive in-depth reports, euro med monitor delivers detailed accounts of incidents often unreported by mainstream sources. Furthermore, the organization investigates broader patterns of human rights abuses that demand sustained attention. When appropriate, Euro-Med Monitor proposes actionable recommendations to address humanitarian crises and provide support to affected populations.

Our work aims to:

  • Enhance understanding and respect for human rights law within the region.
  • Utilize international legal frameworks to ensure accountability for those who perpetrate human rights violations.
  • Support local institutions in implementing collaborative projects.
  • Encourage international and European human rights bodies and policymakers to focus on specific human rights infringements.
  • Highlight the challenges confronting marginalized communities.
  • Promote the use of peaceful and lawful means to expose human rights abusers, including those obstructing the work of legal professionals.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Treatment of civilians in conflict zones.
  • Rights of refugees and migrants.
  • Youth Rights advocacy.
  • Protection of women’s and children’s rights.
  • Freedom of expression and assembly.
  • Combating extralegal executions.
  • Eliminating torture and inhumane treatment.

Our Philosophies

Three core philosophies underpin the work of euro med monitor:

  • Human rights achieve their fullest expression when they extend beyond basic protections and free speech to actively include marginalized groups, such as refugees, in setting priorities and driving advocacy efforts.
  • Young people are the driving force behind our organization, forming the majority of our staff and volunteer base. Recognizing that youth constitute a significant portion of the MENA population, euro med monitor is committed to developing and empowering this generation to be agents of positive change.
  • European institutions responsible for monitoring and regulating development, law, and human rights—along with the international organizations they support—are central to our advocacy targets. We actively engage these entities to take meaningful action and leverage their influence to benefit the communities we serve.

Funding

To maintain its unbiased perspective, protect its vision, and resist undue influence, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has consistently refused funding from governmental and political factions since its inception. Instead, euro med monitor relies on the generosity of individual donors, project-specific funding from independent international organizations, and community-driven crowdfunding campaigns. These campaigns, organized by our dedicated crowdfunding team throughout the year, are essential for financing projects and providing compensation to the young professionals who form the backbone of the Euro-Med team across the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe. Furthermore, a network of international activists, human rights defenders, and members of the Euro-Med Monitor Board of Trustees and Board of Directors contribute to securing funding from diverse sources, ensuring the organization’s continued independence.

Examples of past crowdfunding initiatives include the “Second stage” campaign.

Our Mission

Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor is driven by an urgent mission: to operate as an independent and non-governmental entity dedicated to investigating and exposing oppression and atrocities throughout the region. Our mission extends beyond merely documenting human rights violations; euro med monitor seeks to shape public discourse and inspire international mobilization. This involves collaborating with advocacy organizations, governmental bodies, watchdog groups, and grassroots activists to cultivate a global movement for human rights.

Euro-Med Monitor firmly believes in restoring international law as a respected instrument of global governance. We strive to ensure that those who are oppressed and persecuted can find recourse through recognition, redress, and just compensation. Ultimately, euro med monitor is committed to making impunity a relic of the past, regardless of the wealth or influence of those who commit human rights abuses.
