Little Euro Opens New Location on Spokane’s South Hill, Bringing European Brunch to a Beloved Spot

“We are absolutely delighted to become part of this vibrant South Hill neighborhood,” says Tami Sevier, owner of Little Euro with her husband, David, under the banner of Grand Euro LLC. This marks their third venture in Spokane, joining the successful Little Euro in Spokane Valley (517 N. Pines Road) and Old European Breakfast House in North Spokane (7640 N. Division), each operating under separate LLCs.

Sevier notes the distinct clientele at each location, a testament to the unique appeal of each neighborhood. While Little Euro and Old European share the same beloved menu, the South Hill Little Euro boasts a fresh logo and a cozier, more intimate atmosphere, designed to resonate with the local community.

The roots of Little Euro and Old European trace back to Sevier’s family in the 1980s, a heartfelt homage to her grandmother, Marie Mekklesen. Sevier recounts her grandmother’s courageous journey from Denmark at age 18, immigrating to the United States and leaving her family behind. “Her last meal before leaving Denmark was aebleskiver,” Sevier shares, highlighting the personal significance of this dish.

Aebleskiver, described on the Little Euro menu as delightful “pancake balls hand-rolled in specialty cast iron pans,” are a signature offering across all three restaurants. Grandma Marie’s own aebleskiver cast iron pan, brought from Denmark, is proudly displayed at Old European, a cherished family heirloom and a symbol of their culinary heritage.

While Grandma Marie passed away when Sevier was a teenager, her culinary legacy lived on, becoming a beloved family tradition and eventually a customer favorite at Old European and Little Euro. Scandinavian influences extend beyond aebleskiver, with Swedish crepes and other dishes on the menu also paying tribute to Grandma Marie’s heritage.

Beyond the Scandinavian-inspired specialties, Little Euro offers a diverse menu of classic breakfast and lunch options. Coffee lovers will appreciate the freshly brewed selections from Spokane’s own Indaba Coffee LLC.

Looking ahead, Sevier is considering tailoring the South Hill menu to cater to the nearby healthcare community. “We’re exploring the possibility of adding protein bowls and similar healthy options for the nurses and hospital staff working just down the street,” she explains, demonstrating a commitment to serving the specific needs of the neighborhood.

Expanding to South Hill has been a long-held aspiration for Sevier. “I’ve actually made offers on several properties in this area, but the timing just wasn’t right until now,” she reveals. The South Grand building is owned by The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist church, located just north of Little Euro, which owns multiple properties in the surrounding blocks.

The new Little Euro underwent significant renovations before opening. “We kept the original floor because it’s from Roosevelt Elementary School and has so much character,” Sevier says. “But everything else is brand new.” This includes an expanded patio along Grand Boulevard, increasing seating capacity and creating a more inviting and visible space for the neighborhood to enjoy.

Despite pandemic-related challenges, the Seviers are enthusiastic about this expansion. “We experienced a strong rebound after the COVID slowdown,” she states. And their growth ambitions don’t stop at South Hill. “Our hope is to open more Little Euro locations,” Sevier shares, mentioning the Tri-Cities area as a potential future market. While other Old European locations in Post Falls and Pullman are owned by extended family, the Seviers are focused on growing their Little Euro brand.

The South Hill Little Euro location currently employs approximately 25 people, contributing to the over 80 employees across the Seviers’ three brunch establishments. Their son, Logan, is also training to join the management team at the new South Hill restaurant, making it a true family affair.

Little Euro on South Hill is open seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., ready to welcome the neighborhood and become a new favorite for breakfast and brunch.
