Soccer fans in the United States will have a new home for top-tier European national team action as Fox Sports has secured a major six-year broadcast deal with UEFA. This agreement ensures comprehensive coverage of the UEFA European Championships in 2024 and 2028, making Fox the go-to channel for Euro 2024 Fox coverage.
The expansive deal encompasses over 1,500 matches, kicking off with the UEFA Nations League in June 2022. Beyond the highly anticipated Euro tournaments, Fox Sports will also broadcast the UEFA Nations League, all European Qualifiers for the World Cup and Euro, and UEFA-controlled friendly matches. This solid package of rights was previously held by ESPN, who reportedly invested significantly in the UEFA European Championship, including a reported US$115 million for Euro 2020 alone. Industry reports indicated UEFA was seeking around US$300 million for the rights to the two main Euro tournaments, highlighting the value of this prime soccer content.
Fox’s acquisition of these rights underscores their commitment to soccer and strengthens their already impressive portfolio, which includes the FIFA Men’s and Women’s World Cups, Copa América, and the Concacaf Gold Cup. Eric Shanks, CEO and Executive Producer of Fox Sports, emphasized this point, stating the Euros “fit perfectly into the world’s greatest tournaments – solidifying Fox Sports’ summer of soccer through 2028.” Lachlan Murdoch, Fox chief executive, also highlighted the importance of sports programming in driving advertising revenue, noting a 17 percent year-over-year increase partly due to the return of regular sports schedules.
For viewers looking for more interactive experiences, Fox plans to integrate its UEFA coverage with its Fox Bet and Fox Bet Super 6 platforms. This move is strategically designed to enhance user engagement, offering fans opportunities to engage with the Euro 2024 Fox broadcasts in new and exciting ways. With this comprehensive UEFA deal, Fox Sports is positioning itself as a leading destination for soccer fans in the US, especially for the upcoming Euro 2024 Fox tournament.
