The 2024 NHL Global Series presented by Fastenal marks a significant milestone, representing the 11th season that the NHL has brought regular-season games to Europe. These games serve as a reward to the dedicated European fanbase, who passionately follow the NHL through international broadcasts and media partnerships. Broadcasters such as MTV Oy and Viaplay in Finland, TV10 and Viaplay in Sweden, and Sky and ProSieben in Germany, among others, ensure wide accessibility for European viewers. The NHL’s commitment to its global audience is further underscored by its streaming service, NHL.TV, and its presence across various social media platforms and NHL.com, available in seven languages.

Historically, Prague’s O2 Arena has been a favored venue for NHL games in Europe, having hosted seven previous regular-season matchups. This year’s games will add to that legacy. Tampere’s Nokia Arena will also gain prominence, hosting its third and fourth NHL games, contributing to Finland’s overall count of 10 and 11 NHL games played on its soil.

For the Dallas Stars, the 2024 NHL Global Series will be a historic first, marking their debut in regular-season games outside North America. This participation will make them the 27th NHL franchise to engage in such international games. The New Jersey Devils are seasoned travelers, with this being their second overseas regular-season game appearance. The Buffalo Sabres and Florida Panthers are also veterans of international play, each embarking on their third such trip.

The NHL’s global appeal is evident in its diverse player pool, with over 30 percent of NHL players originating from outside North America this season. The 2024 NHL Global Series presented by Fastenal will highlight this international flavor, featuring global stars on all four participating teams, including players native to the Czech Republic and Finland. Sabres forward JJ Peterka’s return to his birthplace of Munich for a preceding game adds a personal narrative to the series. Furthermore, the Prague games will see emotional homecomings for Czech-born New Jersey Devils forwards Ondrej Palat and Tomas Nosek, as well as Sabres forward Lukas Rousek, all returning to play in their homeland.

These “euro games,” particularly featuring the New Jersey Devils, highlight the growing international presence of the NHL and offer a unique opportunity for European fans to witness top-tier hockey action firsthand.
